The Osmaniyol corridor
The secretariat warns that a corridor cut through Armenia’s Syunik province, which the Republic of Arran calls Zangezur, would close Iran’s historic road to Europe and greatly strengthen Turkey against Iran.
A short analysis by the secretariat of the Azarbaijan Movement on the Osmaniyol corridor
The Osmaniyol corridor, which the autonomous Republic of Arran likes to call the fake Zangezur corridor, would produce a strategic change on Iran’s northern borders and a great threat to national security.
Occupation of this part of Armenian soil would close Iran’s historic road to Europe through Armenia and Georgia to the Black Sea. Apart from Turkey, Iran would have no road for contact with Europe, and Ottoman power against Iran would increase sharply.
Iran must never allow the Osmaniyol corridor to be created by occupying part of Armenia’s Syunik province, or the geography of the region to be changed in Turkey’s favor.
On the other side, small Armenia would be encircled by the Ottomans and the autonomous Republic of Arran, and in hard and tense conditions it would have no breathing space even to feed its own people. The mountainous position and the heights of Syunik province give a military advantage, in any border clash, to whichever country holds the region. Syunik also has important mineral and natural resources, of high economic value to a poor Armenia.
In the present conditions, because of Russia’s war with Ukraine, Western governments want to use this opportunity to reduce their dependence on Russian energy and to strengthen their own energy security, and to sacrifice wretched and weak Armenia to their interests. Apart from Iran, the Armenians have never had another refuge. They have always been subjected to the oppression, cruelty, and savage massacres of the Ottomans.
Nikol Pashinyan and his government, in order to satisfy America and the West, are for now playing on their field. They have little choice: they have been supported by American foundations such as George Soros, brought to power by them, and are trying to take Armenia out from under Russia’s shadow and closer to the West and America. It is plain that this turn has not pleased the Kremlin and Putin. Russian support for Ilham Aliyev, and the retaking of Karabakh, followed from this political change. Putin’s Russia has also carried out its strategy that whoever is not with us must lose part of their soil.
A few examples can be named:
- South Ossetia and Abkhazia in Georgia
- Support for Aliyev and the retaking of Karabakh in the Caucasus
- The provinces of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia from Ukraine
From the day the Caucasus, up to Dagestan, Chechnya, and Ingushetia, and their noble peoples of Iranian stock, were separated from the motherland, they have never seen a happy day. They have been in conflict either with the Russians or with one another.
It may not be far-fetched that, in a day not very distant, the Iranian plateau will return once more to the lap of the motherland, and that they will live for thousands of years more, with honor and heads held high, in their historic country.
Long live Iran and its plateau.
